Description
Hey makers! So, I was looking at my plain old wire shelving unit (you know, the super common ones we all have?) and thinking, "There has to be a better way to use this wasted space!" The sides were just... boring. I wanted to add some handy tool or part storage, and what's better than the Honeycomb Storage Wall (HSW) system by RostaP? The problem was figuring out a clean, non-destructive, and easy way to attach it.
Design Solution:
The solution I came up with is this simple, snap-on bracket! I'm calling it the HSW Wire Shelf Clip! My shelf has a side support that's about 23mm tall, and these clips are designed to just snap right over it, instantly giving you a secure mounting point for your HSW sections.
I'm sharing both the clips and some single-row HSW sections (5x1, 4x1, 3x1, and 2x1 hole variants) so you can get organized right away. I used the 5x1 option to print most of the sections and then used the smaller ones to fit the empty space.
I created two types of brackets to attach the HSW to the clip:
Simple Bracket(Bracket-M3-Nut.stl): This one needs both an M3 screw and an M3 nut.
Self-Tapping Bracket (Bracket-M3-ScrewOuterSide.stl): This is my favorite! It only needs an M3 screw; the hole is sized to allow the screw to self-tap (cut its own threads) into the plastic. Much quicker and easier!
This setup lets you utilize the sides of those common wire shelves, turning dead space into a customized, organized tool area. Super practical! :D
Printing Information:
Material: PLA (PETG would also be great for durability!)
Layer Height: 0.2mm
Infill: 20% or more (I used 20% cubic)
Supports: No supports are needed! I designed the clips to be easily printed as-is.
Additional Notes: Make sure your wire shelving side support is close to the 23mm height for a good, tight fit. The clips simply slide onto the metal frame. Once you have the clips on, attach your HSW section using your chosen M3 bracket. Enjoy the extra storage space!
