Introduction

The Canyon Tile Pack is the first release in my modular RC crawler terrain series. Each tile is a printable square base topped with a sculpted canyon-style crawling surface, tuned for small crawler tires and realistic articulation.

All tiles use a universal clip-and-rail system designed for modular layouts:

• Side rails allow tiles to clip together in any direction

• Upper rails on ramped tiles support a second-level platform

• Most small crawlers can pass under the second level; riser columns (included in the free accessory pack) allow stacking up to a third level when you want taller multi-tier builds

The pack includes:

• 5 terrain tiles (4 canyon tiles, 1 bumpy tile)

• Tree Trunk – Bridge version

• Tree Trunk – Ramp version

These tiles require snug supports everywhere for the rail system. Snug supports stay within the tile’s maximum 210 mm Y footprint, which is necessary because the tiles are dimensioned to just fit printers such as the Prusa MK4S (250×210 mm bed). Other support styles will exceed the printable area.

Print Settings

• Printer: FDM printer with a minimum 210 × 210 mm build area

• Material: PLA or PETG

• Layer Height: 0.20 mm

• Walls: 3–4 perimeters

• Infill: 20% lightning infill — recommended to keep weight down and provide an internal cavity that makes it easy to drill from the bottom and fill with expanding foam if you want additional strength

• Supports: Snug supports everywhere required (other support patterns will push outside the 210 mm Y footprint)

• Scaling: Should work at most scales, however anything lower than 100% may require additional scaling to be applied to the clips for tolerances, clips may be much more fragile as well.

Lightning infill keeps weight down while still supporting simple foam-fill reinforcement through holes drilled in the base. The rail system is tuned to print cleanly with snug supports and standard PLA/PETG settings.

• ~156–390 g PLA depending on the tile

• Estimated filament cost: ~$6 per tile (using a $20 spool)
