Some weeks ago the hinges of my 3,5 years old notebook broke. The connection between left hinge and display broke apart completely. It's the third time it happens, the last two times I still had warranty so it was fixed for me. Which means they replaced the hinges and the display for the exact same type of faulty parts. Now I had the option to buy a new notebook, get it fixed for around 100€ (they will probably break again in a year like the last ones) or design my own solution to get some more month or possibly years of lifetime, and here we are. Fortunately the display was not damaged this time.
In addition to the unhingable hinges that I uploaded some days ago here I present the hingable hinges.
They are not perfect, eg. the display angle is constant, the hinges have almost no damping, the notebook takes more space to store in a bag, and there is a 4mm gap between display and keyboard when closed. The big advantage is that I am able to add some more month or even years of lifetime to my device, and I can even carry it around in a bag.
