This robot design features a rotary slip ring system that allows both arms to rotate a full 360 degrees simultaneously. Thanks to this mechanism, the robot can easily overcome obstacles encountered in front of it, providing enhanced mobility and maneuverability in challenging terrain.
To achieve this full rotation capability, the system requires two 4-wire rotary slip rings, enabling continuous power and signal transmission during rotation.
The robot is designed to operate with four 12V L-type DC motors rated at 90 RPM, ensuring sufficient torque and stable movement. For motor control, the use of two BTS7960B 40A motor driver modules is recommended, offering high current capacity and reliable performance.
Bearings Used
The design incorporates the following bearings for smooth and durable operation:
2 × 6004 2RS / 20×42×12 mm bearings
2 × 6201 2RS / 12×32×10 mm bearings
2 × 6004-2RS/C3 bearings
Wheel and Motor Connection
The wheels use a 17 mm hex hub interface. To ensure compatibility and ease of assembly, the matching hex coupler is included in the provided files. This allows you to 3D print the coupler and securely connect the wheels to the motors without additional machining.
3D Printing Advantages
All connection components are optimized for 3D printing, enabling users to easily print the parts and assemble the wheel and motor system with standard hardware. This makes the design ideal for DIY robotics projects, prototyping, and educational or experimental robotic platforms.
3D printing settings
All parts should be 3D printed using PLA filament with a layer height of 0.12 mm to ensure high dimensional accuracy and smooth mechanical fit.
For components subjected to mechanical stress—especially gear wheels (gear parts)—it is strongly recommended to print with 100% infill. This significantly increases durability, wear resistance, and torque transmission reliability during operation.
To improve overall strength and long-term performance, users are advised to choose a high-strength or reinforced PLA filament (such as PLA+, Tough PLA, or impact-resistant PLA variants) rather than standard PLA.
Summary of Print Settings
