Description
If you want a screw top lid on your bucket for your Dust Deputy Cyclone instead of peeling off those annoying stock lids, you'll know why. Screw top lids are not flat, so you can't just cut a hole and bolt on a Dust Deputy. So I found the best screw top lid and made an adapter so they'll play nice together.
You'll need:
Gamma2 screw on bucket lid (<-Amazon Link). This adapter is designed for this specific lid. No idea if it will work with other knockoffs. Also works with these bucket and lid combos.
Oneida Air Systems Dust Deputy DIY Cyclone Separator (<-Amazon Link) Should work with the standard or the 2.5.
5 gallon or bigger plastic bucket that is at least 90mil thick (check the bottom of the bucket... 70mil standard big box buckets will crush under vacuum). OR you can double up the thinner buckets and be fine.
4 x 1 ¾"-20 OR 2"-20 Hex head bolts (4 of the ones supplied with the Dust Deputy won't be long enough)
3.5" (89mm) Hole Saw (or I suppose you could use a jig saw or oscillating saw if you have a very steady hand)
5/16" (8mm) Drill Bit
Silicone sealant or caulk
1: Print the adapter. I used 20% Support Cubic Infill, 4 perimeters, Concentric Top and Bottom Fill Patterns, and .2mm layer height. PLA works fine.
2: Drill a 3.5" (89mm) hole in the top of the Gamma2 lid. MAKE SURE IT IS PERFECTLY CENTERED. If you do not, you will have to file or cut off some extra plastic on one side to make the adapter fit. Clean up the edges with a file or sand paper and maybe a little flame.
3: Drop the adapter in the lid, then drill the holes for the bolts in the lid through the adapter holes with a 5/16" Drill Bit.
4: Bolt on the Dust Deputy, don't forget your gasket. The long bolts go on either side of the lid ribs, and the short ones that come with the kit go through the ribs.
5: Run a silicone bead around the edges where the adapter meets the lid, Top and Bottom.
6: Go suck some dust and check for leaks.
