Description
Partial Height Bins are now available for CR2 & CR123A batteries.
AA and AAA bins have also been revised to have an additional compartment.
High-capacity bins have also been added.
There are lots of bins for holding batteries, but not that had the same core features as the coin cell containers I am using (from EricS on Makerworld):
Stackable
Labeled
Easy to access batteries
As a result, I created a set of complementary bins for AA, AAA, AAAA, C, D, 9V, CR123A, CR2, & MN21/A23. They have been designed to hold a standard number of batteries, plus a few more. That way when running low, a new pack of batteries can be added without having overflow. They come in two main varieties, which are described below: Partial Height & Full Height.
Full height cases have the ability to have containers stacked above them. However, they do lose some functionality as removing batteries is not the easiest. Below are specifics on the bin sizing:
Battery | Capacity | Size (X,Y) | Height |
|---|---|---|---|
9V (10x) | 10 | 2x2 | 9U |
AA | 31 | 3x2 | 9U |
20 | 2x2 | 9U | |
Rechargeable AA | 20 | 2x2 | 9U |
AAA | 40 | 2x2 | 8U or 9U |
19 | 2x1 | 8U or 9U | |
AAAA | 12 | 1x1 | 7U |
15 | 2x1 | 7U | |
C | 12 | 3x2 | 9U |
6 | 2x2 | 9U | |
D | 6 | 3x2 | 10U |
CR2 | 7 | 2x1 | 5U |
CR123A | 14 | 2x2 | 6U |
MN21/A23 | 6 | 1x1 | 5U |
AAA bins are available in both 8U heights and 9u heights. They are functionally the same - the only difference is that the 9U height has the battery storage compartments offset 1U taller so that the top of the bins align with the tops of the AA bins.
CR2, CR123A and MN/S23 bins: If you want them to be the same height as the other full height bins, I recommend printing empty 3U or 4U bins for them. Using a riser with these batteries is not recommended. The batteries are shorter than the respective riser, resulting in the batteries being able to leave their compartments and possibly short out.
Partial height cases have the side walls ending just above the labels. This allows for easier access to the batteries when they do not need to be stacked. These bins are still stackable using risers which are included. Additionally, the top ledge of the bins is gridfinity standard so empty bins are still stackable. Risers are also interchangeable with any other equivalent sized bin. See printing notes for details about risers.
MN21/A23 bins are not available in partial height. As these batteries are higher voltage (12v) a partial height bin is not planned.
Battery | Capacity | Size (X,Y) | Height w/o Riser | Minimum Riser height* | Height with Minimum Riser |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
9V | 10 | 2x2 | 6U | 3U | 9U |
AA | 31 | 3x2 | 6U | 3U | 9U |
20 | 2x2 | 6U | 3U | 9U | |
Rechargeable AA | 20 | 2x2 | 6U | 3U | 9U |
AAA | 40 | 2x2 | 5U | 3U | 8U |
19 | 2x1 | 5U | 3U | 8U | |
AAAA | 12 | 1x1 | 5U | 2U | 7U |
15 | 2x1 | 5U | 2U | 7U | |
C | 12 | 3x2 | 6U | 3U | 9U |
6 | 2x2 | 6U | 3U | 9U | |
D | 6 | 3x2 | 6U | 4U | 10U |
Risers have a thin width first layer. Therefore, I recommend adding a 4mm brim in your slicer of choice so that they stick to the print bed better.
For CR2, CR123A: If you want them to be the same height as the other full height bins, I recommend printing the minimum height riser, and then an empty 3U or 4U bin for them. Using a taller riser with these batteries is not recommended as the batteries are shorter than the taller riser, resulting in the batteries being able to leave their compartments and possibly short out.
EXCEPT for CR2 & CR123A, taller risers may be used, but batteries will be prone to more rattling.
@bioxz Requested some 'high capacity' bins that maximized the volume, regardless of whether there would still be room for a label. Two battery sizes could currently could fit more batteries if a label either is not required or reduced in size/legibility. These bins are in a separate sub-folder as they all have some form of reduced functionality as listed in table below. The height of these bins are the same as the related Partial Height bin.
Battery | Capacity | Size (X,Y) | Functionality Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
AAA-HC | 21 | 2x1 | No Label |
AAA-HC | 42 | 2x2 | Label is partially obscured and is a smaller font size. |
CR123A | 18 | 3x2 | Label does not have a prefix and font size is smaller. Also, the 'pins' may be prone to breakage depending on material. |
AA | 32 | 3x2 | Label is in a less than desirable location |
Layer Height: 0.20mm
Nozzle Size: 0.4mm
For the risers, they have a thin width first layer. Therefore, I recommend adding a 4mm brim in PrusaSlicer so that they stick to the print bed better.
Any filament should work; however I used the following for mine:
Main Color: eSUN High Speed PETG Black
Label Colors: eSUN High Speed PETG Yellow & High Speed PTEG Green
Several bins have been revised to be a little more efficient. The older copies of these bins are provided in the deprecated folder should anyone like them better. These bins include:
AA 3x2
V1 - Dec 26, 2025 - 30 compartments
V2 - Jan 25, 2026 - 31 compartments
AAA 2x2
V1 - Dec 26, 2025 - 39 compartments
V2 - Jan 25, 2026 - 40 compartments
AAA 2x1
V1 - Dec 26, 2025 - 18 compartments
V2 - Jan 25, 2026 - 19 compartments
2026-01-18: Added AAA 9U tall bins (in the Full Height Folder); Added additional notes under full height bins; Revised notes under the table of Partial Height Bins; Added a folder with the various risers available.
2026-01-26: Added partial height bins for CR2 & CR123A; Revised AA & AAA bins (see deprecated bins section); Added high capacity bins; Revised notes with the changes including new table notes under Partial Hight Bins.
