Description
I liked the original concept, but it just didn't work for me. The base was too short, making the stand unstable, and my laptop actually slipped off once (luckily it landed on my chair). Also, I needed a way to keep the temps down during heavy work.
After this upgrade, I noticed a significant drop in operational temperatures—around 10°C to 15°C lower than before (results may vary depending on your laptop and fan and other conditions).
Main improvements:
Better construction: Extended the base and support arms. No more tipping over backwards.
Secure Grip: Reworked the front stoppers to be higher and reinforced. Your laptop won't go anywhere.
(optional upgrade) Active Cooling: The center brace is now a dedicated mount for a 140mm fan (I used a Noctua NF-A14 PWM).
Assembly & Print Tips:
Fan: Noctua NF-A14 PWM. Everything needed for fan mounting is included in the Noctua box.
Power Supply: I used a 12V / 2A (24W) DC Adapter (specifically Solight for LED strips). It provides more than enough power for silent and stable operation.
Material: I highly recommend using PETG (I used Prusament Signal White). PLA might soften/degrade over time due to the heat exhausting from the laptop.
Settings: Use at least 3-4 perimeters for maximum strength, especially for the front stoppers and joints. Use 20-25% infill.
Wiring/Connection Diagram (for DC adapter only)
If you are using a standard 12V DC adapter instead of a PC motherboard (most likely), refer to the included Noctua wiring diagram down below:
Yellow Wire (+12V): Connect to the positive wire of your adapter.
Black Wire (GND): Connect to the negative (ground) wire of your adapter.
Blue/Green Wires: These are for PWM and RPM signals. For a simple "always-on" cooling setup, you can leave these disconnected.
