Description

This ring makes a fun party favor. Print the ring out of a silver/metallic filament and the “gem” out of translucent filament, slide then glue them together, and you are good to glow!

While the “gem” and the front of the ring slide together, I find that the attachment is much was much sturdier if the “gem” is permanently glued to the ring. A small drop of superglue or epoxy placed between the “prongs” on the ring should do the trick.

In addition to the 3D printed parts, you will need the following parts for your ring:

  • CR2032 Coin Cell Battery
  • a 4x3x2 LED (color changing LEDs like these are the most fun). A 3mm LED like this will work as well, but doesn't sit flush as nicely against the ring.

You will need pliers to pull the LED legs through the holes, and a flush cutter is helpful to trim the excess parts of the legs when they are secured in place.

The pictures show how the LED legs slide through the holes in the ring to make contact with the battery. Make sure that the short (negative) LED leg is the one making contact with the front of the battery in the holder. The first time you insert the battery may require a little extra pressure. A trick to get the battery to slide in and out easily is to place the edge of the battery against a table top and push down on the ring until it slides into place.
