Description
The use case: There is an Exhauster in the bathroom that needs to be replaced. The old and new Exhauster brands differ so the existing holes do not align. The ceiling has a slope of 17 degrees and an opening for a (malformed) tube to exhaust air. This opening is not centered to the existing holes for the screws.
This assembly solves the challenges as mentioned above:
Align the position of the holes from 135x135 mm to 124x124 mm.
Position the Exhauster horizontally.
Align the exhaust opening in the ceiling to the center of the new Exhauster.
It consists of three parts:
A Ceiling Mount that aligns with the old layout of the holes AND aligns the opening in the ceiling with the center of the Exhauster.
An Adapter that is fitted to the Ceiling Mount and aligns with the new layout of the holes.
A Collar that extends the exhaust opening to the Exhauster.
Yes, this is a very specific use case but I hope that the information provided below can be used as inspiration or a guide for similar cases.
Notes:
The provided Ceiling Mount has its holes made symetrical for this publication as otherwise it is too specific.
4x Screws for installing the Ceiling Mount.
4x M4 Bolt (16 mm minimum) for fixing the 17 Degrees Adapter to the Ceiling Mount.
4x M4 Bolt (16 mm minimum) for fixing the Exhauster to the Adapter. Given the available space I needed to use a Bolt with a hexagon socket for a couple of holes.
12x M4 Washer.
8x M4 Lock Nut (with nylon insert).
Exhauster with holes at a distance of 124x124. Mine is a Svensa (Vent-Axia).
Printed parts.
Notes
Lock Nuts must be used because vibrations are expected during operation.
In case the Exhauster is operating in a humid environment use stainless steel installation material.
Fill Density: 30% because of the forces exerted by the installation material.
Fill Patern: Grid.
Perimeters: 3. Again, because of the forces exerted by the installation material.
Support: None.
Filament: PETG if the Exhauster is used in a humid environment. Also because it is less brittle so it can better withstand the expected vibrations.
Fit the Ceiling Mount to the ceiling using the Screws and Washers.
Install the Adapter using Bolts, Washers and Nuts.
Attach the Collar to the Exhauster and insert it in the exhaust opening in the ceiling.
Install the Exhauster using Bolts, Washers and Nuts.
