Why? It broke and it was Friday :/ 


Printing:

  • boom:

    • infill 10% cross hatch

    • 2 walls

    • z-seam must not be at the end (seam-paint it in at the center)

  • clip:

    • raft layers: 1

    • required: 3 - 4

  • material:

    • PETG

Mounting:

The tail rotor cables were originally pulled through the carbon tail boom that was empty inside. With this replacement, they need to be de-soldered, pulled through the mall gap of the motor bracket and fixed with the clip along the boom.

Remove the elephant-foot from the Ends. The long end goes into the helicopter body, the short into the tail-rotor bracket. Glue is not recommended.

In order too have consistent layer time print the clips apart from the boom. Use raft layers.

Stability:

With PETG its definitively less stiff than the original carbon boom, but acceptable. Also the clip is not that stable. The replacement adds 1g of weight to the helicopter. There is a high chance it rips off at heli side. Then its quite hard to pull the broken part out. You most-likely need to dill a small hole into the piece and pull it with a smaller screw. PLA Carbon Fiber has been tested, but is too weak.
