Description
I designed these mic racks for colleagues in the music department at school. They are now installed in a music room and behind the stage in our auditorium. They are sized to fit Shure Sm58 mics, but when testing them others fit as well.
You'll need heat set threaded inserts for these as designed- I used M4 x 6 diameter x 4 height, and 10MM M4 flat head machine screws. I uploaded the STEP files so that you can modify them as you wish.
The 3MF file is configured to have 15% gyroid infill, 4 bottom layers, 5 top layers, 3 walls on the wall plate and 4 walls on the mic holder. I used PETG-CF for mine, but any PETG would work, as would ABS and ASA. Due to the potential stress I'd avoid PLA personally, though I have no doubt it would probably be fine for most people. Heck, TPU could be great for this, assuming the inserts stay put. (Do they?)
A few design notes:
The reverse side of the plate has a few shallow grooves which are there to combat warping and stress. Breaking up large flat surfaces with grooves/channels is something I started doing after seeing a tip about adding ‘concentric grooves’ to prevent warping on Reddit a while ago. I've found that it works well, especially when paired with CF and GF filaments.
The mic holders have an open slot to allow the switch to slide through without issue. This also helps provide a small amount of flex.
Printing as oriented will ensure the strongest possible parts. No supports are required.
