Description

I wanted to upgrade the backplate fan and WIFI dongle for my QIDI Plus 4. I found a few nice backplates that could accommodate the 120mm fan, but there was nowhere to mount the significantly larger WIFI dongle I had, so I decided to design an all-in-one backplate solution!

This backplate will accommodate a 120mm fan to cool your Main Board and X/Y stepper motors. It also allows for a USB extender to be passed through a hole, have the cable routed through the two clips, and attach to a new WIFI dongle.

UPDATE: I've included a second version that has holes to accommodate 80mm/90mm/92mm fans as well! Download whichever best fits your needs.

Make sure you orient the fan to BLOW air ONTO the Main Board. There's plenty of exhaust holes around the fan to allow for hot air to escape that way.

Here are the items I purchased for this upgrade:

  • JZK 120x120x25 mm 2pin DC 24V Silent Cooling Fan ($6.99)

  • ANDTOBO USB Extension Cable 3.3ft ($4.99)

  • TP-Link AC600 USB WiFi Adapter for PC (Archer T2U Plus) ($14.45)

The instructions I followed for the upgrade are here:

With the new fan and the above instructions, my X/Y stepper motor temps dropped from the 80Cs to mid 50s.

Also, with the new WIFI dongle (which I just needed to plug in), I no longer had issues connecting via WIFI to my printer, and the video feed reliably plays.

Printing Suggestions:

I printed using PLA-CF, with supports as there's an overhang all around the perimeter.

There's also a small cut-out in which to glue a magnet so your poop chute can be more locked in place (with an adjoining magnet, shown in some of the images).
