Description
The model is a relatively simple assembly, and a quick way to fashion yourself a convenient pen holder (and perhaps "clean up" your workspace a little bit). As for the scale, the current model is only for a single pen or pencil; it is feasible for the user to scale up or down the print as appropriate to get a larger holder (and so more pens/pencils can be stored). It takes only a few hours to print on fine detail, and although it is not a perfect replica of the tower (artistic liberties were taken to make the design more approachable and to reduce rendering/printing difficulty), it appears to very closely match it. The design has a few supports, so I would recommend using the twist and pull method after the print cools (which is what I did, and it turned out well). I didn't need sanding, but that would clean the build significantly, and although glue is not required, it would be convenient to attach the bottom layers together.
As for the print itself, there are several easter eggs (ie, arches appear roughly every 5.5 degrees, which was the greatest tilt of the tower, etc.), and although small (and leaning, so the center of mass is not on the center), the build does not fall over (for larger prints, a cavity on the bottom is attached so a large mass can be placed as a composite.
This is perhaps my first venture into replicating a building, and it seemed to turn out well. The print was clean and detailed, and it looks great. You can see some of the build progress with the attached images.
