Description

Two-piece film holder/guide for scanning 8x10 film on the Epson scanners that support 8x10.

Main part - film guide:

There are two parts to this guide. One part, called BottomGuide, is placed on the glass and an 8x10 negative will fit in the opening more or less exactly. Make sure you push the corner of the guide into the corner of the scanner with the arrow, upper right on the cover photo. The gap at that end of the scanner is necessary for the scanner’s operation.

Second part - film holder/flattener:

The second part, called TopHolder, is optional. If your negatives are thin and have a little curl to them it will hold them flattened on the glass.  A further option: you can add soft foam along the top of this piece so the lid of the scanner will push down, slightly, on the holder, keeping things even more secure.  See the photo with the blue pieces of foam.

Printing:

This can probably be printed in just about any filament. It should be opaque black. If you don’t have opaque black filament, paint the guide with black paint. The scanner needs this black reference for setting basic levels.

The film guide prints as presented with no supports. The flattener should  be printed upside-down  (top face on the bed)  with no supports.

The two-part version, when printed, snaps together.  See the screen-capture of the slicer for the arrangement on the bed and the snap-together "jigsaw" parts.  A tiny bit of compatible glue or epoxy, or even some tape, can make this more secure. The unsplit version is for your larger printer or if you want to split it yourself.

Release note:

2/5/26 14:53 - uploaded a fix (non-square corner fixed) and added printing notes.
