Description
This is a rim insert meant to fit with DukeDoks DKS Pro RC car design. I created the rim CAD file by reverse engineering the physical 3d printed part from the DKS Pro design. I then added the spokes in an assembly file to export as the attached STEP file. I did not use any of DukeDoks CAD files to create this CAD model. This is why I classified this model as "original" and not a remix.
I highly recommend purchasing the DKS Pro "4WD" project for sale here on Printables. Even if you aren't into RC, DukeDoks DKS Pro model is one of the best examples of functional 3d printing, hybrid engineering and mechanical design that I have seen. The design is thorough and complete. The assembly instructions are clear and straightforward. I had a great time printing the full design and the result is satisfying. Round of Applause!!!!
I have printed this on an FDM printer using a 0.4mm nozzle @ 0.10 LR using PLA and PA6-CF. The carbon print was not great due to the fine detail in this model. PLA printed ok, but still not great. I will try it with a 0.25mm nozzle @ 0.10mm and see what happens. These rims would be more for show, than for performance. The stock rim/spoke on the DKS Pro model are more robust and durable for racing purposes.
These will be printed using an SLS printer using PA12 which is capable of very fine detail and does not require support structures. The SLS prints will be suitable for racing purposes as well as show.
