Description
In order to finally be able to log caches high up in the trees, I bought a 12m carbon pole. To be able to get the caches down and up again, some attachments are needed.
Typically those attachments are made from plastic pipes, wires, nuts and bolts, some requiring tools to change attachments. Loving my 3D printing hobby, I always thought there should be a more easy option to print. After being unable to find anything useful, I designed this set.
One rod attachment
Also acts as plug for the outer pole
Soft grip around the rod reduces stesss on rod
20mm thread provides structural strength
Three different attachments for retrieving and returning the caches:
hook
double tip
holder for pre-form PET bottles
Attachment snaps in locked position when fully screwed on, won't loosen itself (see last picture)
Easy tool-less attachment change
Printing:
Use the stp files for better accuracy, the stl files are for the online viewer and to demonstrate the print orientation
Rod attachment: TPU or similar
Other attachments: PETG or similar
Need support
Printed with 0.4mm nozzle and 0.2mm layer height, 15% infill
I added red stripes for better visibility, but hi-vis orange would have also worked well
Preparation:
Carbon pole:
I ordered the 12m version of "High Carbon 8m 9m 10m 11m 12m 13m Power Hand Pole Fishing Rod Ultra Hard Super Light Telescopic Rod Stick Spare tip A119" at a big eastern shop.
Remove the sections that are too thin (instable), the smallest one should be 7-7.75mm diameter.
insert 2 small zip ties into the holes of the rod attachment, loop them around and pre-tighten them
(make sure the "heads" are in the pockets)
Put the rod attachment on the smallest rod and tighten the zip ties, cut the excess ties off
Feedback:
Please comment when you need a differenct rod diameter, different outer pipe diameter or different attachments.
