The biggest upgrade made to my 3d printer was to switch from stock hotend+extruder combo to a direct drive v6 setup, using the Eryone Thinker SE Direct Drive mod BMG + E3Dv6 (Including Volcano) project.
I was overall satisfied, if it wasn't for a number of issues I had:
- I don't need a cable tie support on the base plate, since I route my cables together with the filament (in a ptfe tube) towards the original eryone extruder position, for reasons
- the bltouch mount wasn't fitting well to the base plate
- the fan ducts have unneeded slopes which makes impossible to print them without supports underneat them
- I used longer bolts than needed for my hotend cooling fan, and I had to drill holes in the mount in order to avoid cracking the piece
- I couldn't easily attach the fan mounts using two bolts for each, since the fan would partially cover the lower one on each side
So I designed my upgraded version of this project, which solves all the above issues. In particular:
- removed cable tie support on the base plate entirely
- added a second slot that fits the bltouch mount to the base plate
- made the fan ducts flat on the easiest side to print
- added through holes for the hotend fan
- added a third hole for mounting the part cooling fans on each side
