Description
It's ok to have a sad day. Today we can all be "Sad Man". Today I deleted many of my models from Thingiverse.
Earlier this morning I got an email that Thingiverse has been acquired by MyMiniFactory. They're very much anti-AI so I proactively deleted ALL of my models where I had used AI. This could have been from a base mesh or even just something with a single part. It's still possible that my account will be banned or who knows but if you've been following me for a while and reading this then I want to thank you (thank you even if you haven't been following). Yes I use AI but I put in a lot of time and effort and care into my work. The notion that your work doesn't have a soul or value or whatever because of the tools that you use isn't something I believe. I believe that if you are having fun, learning and creating then your "soul" (or whatever it is) will shine through.
I started making models back in November 2024 and in May of 2025 I quit my techie corporate job to do this full-time. While I used AI it was always free work to create something new or that seemed to be missing from the major print sites but used in major DND campaigns. This work doesn't make me any money but I enjoy it. My hope is that people who see what I do and genuinely like it will support me on places like Patreon or Cults3d with their "Pay what you want" revenue model.
After deleting my AI models from Thingiverse I started working on this new miniature made from scratch. This is a human commoner I've labelled "Sad Man". I think he turned out OK but very much in the "Don't quit your day job" tier of model. Too late for that!
For the process I livestreamed my work on Twitch so if you want to see that VOD it will be available on my YouTube here when it's done processing or you can watch the timelapse here:
I've got two poses on this model one hands up and one sitting down with hands on his head. The model is fully rigged with base layers and separate clothing layers so I might add more variants some other time.
For printing on FDM I recommend rotating him onto his back at -90 degrees on the X-axis. For Resin I've added pre-supported files here for you.
You can follow along with me on Thingiverse (For Now), Printables, Cults3d or join in on the discuss on Patreon here.
My AI models can be found on the other sites and via my Google Drive link on Patreon. I stand by that work and its printability. Today was a sad day.
