Description

These models are made to enhance your Prusa USS Drybox experience, bringing additional compatibility and expanding the range of options.

Before you start, read the article, which contains all the important info.

What can you find here?

ADAPTERS FOR PRINTERS:

Some printers are ready for the USS Drybox out of the box, while others require some printable parts. Find yours in the list below. Once the parts are printed, follow the assembly instructions article here, which includes the required fasteners.

In short, you almost always need universal spool holder parts (puck + spool holder) and part(s) based on your printer.

CORE One+ / CORE One L: The Prusa USS Drybox is ready to be used out of the box with the 3D printed (black) removable spool holder.

CORE One: If you have the non-plus version with an orange spool holder, you have to print the following parts. To change the spool holder, remove the 4 screws holding the orange spool holder and use them to attach the new universal puck.

  • Universal-Spoolholder-1kg - 1x

  • Universal-Puck - 1x

MK4/S: Printed parts partly utilize the existing injection-molded spool holder, which has to be upgraded with the following parts.

  • Universal-Spoolholder-1kg - 2x

  • Universal-Puck - 2x

  • MK-Adapter - 1x

  • Filament-Guide-USS-Drybox - 1x

XL:  For your XL printer, you have to print the following parts depending on the number of USS dryboxes you intend to use. For a single drybox, print everything once.

  • Universal-Spoolholder-1kg - 1x

  • Universal-Puck - 1x

  • XL-Enclosure-adapter* - 1x

*Print this part, only if XL enclosure is installed.

HT90: For your HT90 print you have to print the HT90-Quick-connect-holder.

  • Universal-Spoolholder-1kg - 1x

  • Universal-Puck - 1x

  • HT90-quick-connect-holder

  • HT90-quick-connect-base*

*HT90-quick-connect-base is not mandatory, but includes a small latch for more secure connection between the base and the holder.

FILAMENT LABELS:

The Prusa USS Drybox package contains a basic set of cardboard labels that can be used, but printed labels are much more convenient. In the Filament labels folder, you can find models with pre-made texts, plus one blank label. The files are ready to be modded - add color change, modificators, patterns... anything you want!

We recommend print from black/white colors for better clarity, but you can try different options.

PTFE ADD-ONS:

PTFE Stopper: A simple clip to put on the PTFE tube as a stopper to prevent the tube from moving.

PTFE Connection: An easy, but genius way to connect two PTFE tubes together (Perfect for CORE One+ and CORE One L printers).

A massive shoutout to @jack, who not only agreed to use his design, but also modified the connector design to be more "Prusa" style.

Assembly:

For an instructions with photos, please check Quick Connect model from @jack

Put some painter's tape around the tube (leave >2 cm free) to get a better grip.

  1. Start screwing 10mm in.

  2. Wait for 5 minutes so the PTFE will deform and adapt the thread.

  3. Lock it into its final position by pressing and screwing until a tiny end protrudes.

  4. Press the protruding rim outwards by putting in some filament and bending it out, wiggling around to ensure smooth passage.

Remove the tape and let it rest for a day.

If you need a more secure connection, you can add a drop of superglue (CA) from the bottom - it will seep into the thread and improve (tighten) the fit. However, keep in mind PTFE can't be glued.

SILICAGEL BOX:

A bag with desiccant is part of the USS Drybox package. For those who like to use regenerative desiccant and need a box for it, we have prepared a printable version.

UNIVERSAL SPOOLHOLDER:

This is required in case your printer arrived without it. We are also adding the required rubber O-ring to every USS drybox package, so you don't need to look for it in hardware stores :-)

Universal spoolholder consists of:

  • Universal-Spoolholder-1kg

  • Universal-Puck

Print instructions

Download the latest PrusaSlicer and use the following settings**:

CORE, MK and XL printers:

  • Print settings: 0.20mm STRUCTURAL

  • Filament: PETG or PC (depends on model, tested on Prusament)

  • 15% Grid infill

The prints were tested on the Prusa CORE One L.

HT90:

  • Print settings: Balance

  • Filament: PETG or PC (depends on model, tested on Prusament)

  • 15% Grid infill

** Note that print settings are recommended, but you can experiment with your own.

Drybox compatibility

The USS Drybox design was primarily developed for Prusament and Buddy3D spools. However, we also aimed for the broadest possible compatibility with other manufacturers and sought the right compromise.

A list of compatible spools (as of the drybox release date) can be found in this article.
