The Story Behind This Relic (Updated)

I’m uploading this design with mixed feelings. Just as I was putting the final touches on this work for the contest, my Centauri Carbon printer gave up the ghost (RIP). I initially thought my forge was entirely out of commission and that I’d have to rely on a fellow master-craftsman from the community to bring this design to life.

However, after many grueling attempts, I discovered a strange curse on the machine: it only freezes and "dies" at slow print speeds. Thanks to this discovery, I was actually able to force the print through, test the design, and make my final corrections! Unfortunately, it seems I still won't be able to print completely normally moving forward. Elegoo support believes I don't need replacement parts since I can technically still print... their official solution was simply to "not use slow speeds."

Some Facts About Naming and Inscriptions
  • Why use Latin names?
If the electric shaver were "invented" in the 1400s (this is a custom chest for a Philips OneBlade, after all), it would be the most miraculous invention in the world to its creator. During the Middle Ages, all significant and mysterious discoveries—especially those bordering on magic—were named in Latin by scholars, monks, and alchemists.

  • What is Eindhoven doing on a KCD2-themed chest?
Eindhoven is the real-world Dutch city where the Philips company was originally founded. Because "Philips" sounds a bit too modern for a 15th-century craftsmen's guild, I altered the name slightly to fit the era. Historically, Eindhoven was granted city rights in 1232, so it was already a well-established town during the events of KCD2. It makes perfect sense that our Machina could have been brought to Bohemia hidden among the wares of traveling merchants from the Low Countries.

  • Why Dragons? Almost every European culture had legends and fears about dragons in the Middle Ages. I decided to use this mythology as a medieval marketing tactic—a clever way for our clever inventor, "Philippus," to advertise his Machina Barbae (Beard Machine) to the masses.

  • Inquisition Pyres in Bohemia? While pop culture usually focuses on the Spanish Inquisition (which started later, in 1478), the Medieval Inquisition existed long before the 1400s. And there were absolutely pyres in Bohemia! In fact, the famous Bohemian reformer Jan Hus was burned at the stake for heresy in 1415, an event that directly sparked the Hussite Wars—the exact historical backdrop of the Kingdom Come universe. As for Eindhoven, while the brutal, formal Inquisition didn't take over the region until the 1500s, the fear of being burned as a heretic or sorcerer for inventing a "magical buzzing razor" was a very real danger everywhere in 15th-century Europe.

The Design

"Machina Barbae Arcana" is a medieval-styled vaultdesigned specifically for the Philips OneBlade 360 (QP4631/65) and its accessories. It is built to protect the tools of a modern Knight with the durability of a heavy, reinforced oak coffer.

The Modular Secret: As I carry an older model of the blade, I designed the internal platform and the "Torture Shackle" to be entirely removable. You can easily swap or redesign these inserts to fit your own blade or tools without having to rebuild the entire carved chest from scratch.

Features & Layout
  • 4-Compartment System: Dedicated space for your handle, spare blades, and alchemical charging cables.

  • The Upper Chamber: Secured by a Sword-Pin latch and a medieval Stockade (Shackle) to keep the razor imprisoned. When the shackle is released, the platform rises slightly, as if by magic.

  • Triple Drawer Armory:

    • The Charging Vault: Space for your power source.

    • The Attachment Armory: Spring-loaded to pop out when the swivel latch is turned.

    • The Blade Reliquary: A spring-loaded drawer for your spare 360 blades.

  • Mechanical Ingenuity: All moving parts and drawers are powered by integrated PETG springs.

Artificer’s Notes (Updated)
  • The Files (3MF Included): I’ve added 3MF files containing the complete set of parts alongside my recommended print settings. I know perfectly well that assembling a project from individual STL files is a tedious chore, so this should save you the headache.

  • The Springs: You must use PETG for the springs to ensure they keep their "snap." The rest can be forged from PLA (Wood-filled PLA highly recommended for the authentic look).

  • No Hardware Required: 100% 3D printable. No modern screws or metal pins needed to assemble this chest. For the hinges, simply use short pieces of 1.75mm filament as pins — a simple solution for a master's craft.

  • Hidden Marks: Keep an eye out for hidden inscriptions and nods to the lands of Bohemia throughout the box.

  • The Wood Grain (Fuzzy Skin): To simulate long oak fibers, enable "Fuzzy Skin" (outside walls only). Use a low Fuzzy Skin Thickness (0.1 - 0.15mm) but a large Fuzzy Skin Point Distance (0.8 - 1.2mm). This stretches the "fuzz" into long, irregular horizontal lines that mimic natural wood grain.

  • The Wrought Iron Effect: For the sword-pin, latches, and "torture" shackle, you can also use a subtle Fuzzy Skin setting with a very small point distance (e.g., 0.1mm thickness / 0.1mm distance). This creates a matte, pitted texture typical of ancient, hand-forged iron.

Assembly Video-Tips

Before you watch, I want to apologize for my English. I'm a bit sick at the moment, and this is my first attempt at making a video, so please bear with me!
