Description
Overview
This project was created from a real need in my own sim racing setup.
I didn’t want compromises. I wanted the correct wheel distance, proper driving position, and the ability to bring my monitors closer to achieve a realistic field of view without sacrificing strength or safety.
So I designed and tested this universal wheel extender, compatible with the standard 70mm PCD bolt pattern, used by most sim racing wheelbases and real automotive steering wheels.
This is not just a cosmetic spacer. This is a functional structural component designed with strength, reliability, and real-world use in mind.
Available lengths included:
• 50mm
• 70mm
• 90mm
You can use it as an extender or adapter depending on your setup requirements.
Why this exists
Sim racing realism depends heavily on driving position and field of view alignment.
By extending the wheel closer to your hands, you can:
• Achieve a more realistic driving position
• Improve comfort during long sessions
• Bring monitors closer for correct FOV
• Increase immersion and control precision
This design solved exactly that problem in my own rig.
Strength and Reinforcement
The geometry itself is designed for high structural strength.
For maximum safety and long-term durability, the design allows installation of M3 threaded metal rods inside the structure, transforming it into a reinforced plastic-metal composite component.
Once installed, you no longer think about failure. It becomes a structural part, not just plastic.
For lower torque wheelbases (Logitech, Thrustmaster entry level), reinforcement is optional.
For higher torque systems, reinforcement is strongly recommended.
Printing Instructions
Recommended material:
• PETG (strongly recommended)
Do NOT use PLA except for prototype or visual testing.
Recommended slicer settings:
• 4 walls / perimeters
• 4 top layers
• 4 bottom layers
• Gyroid infill
• Full calibration recommended
• Scarf seam recommended
Orientation:
• Print vertically
Supports:
• Organic supports recommended for best surface quality
These settings were tested and provide excellent strength and surface finish.
Metal Reinforcement Installation
Optional but recommended for maximum strength.
Use:
• M3 threaded rod
Installation methods:
• Carefully press into place
or
• Slowly drive in using a cordless screwdriver for precise installation
Trim excess with pliers after installation.
This creates a hybrid reinforced structure.
Compatibility
Compatible with:
• Standard 70mm PCD sim racing wheelbases
• Sim racing wheels using automotive bolt pattern
Examples include many wheelbases from:
• Thrustmaster
• Logitech
• Fanatec
• Simagic
• and others using 70mm pattern
Development Philosophy
This was not made quickly or casually.
It was developed through real testing, real problems, and real solutions.
I design parts because I need them. I test them. I refine them. And I share them.
This is my first public release here, and I’m proud to contribute something functional to the community.
