Description
BENCHY: LIGHTHOUSE SCENE
A structural reinterpretation of the world’s most iconic 3D‑printing test boat — transformed into a compact architectural diorama.
The goal was to evolve Benchy from a calibration object into a narrative, display‑ready model while preserving the logic of real FDM printing.
Design Approach
• Printed as a single-piece model
• Minimal supports used only where structurally necessary
• Geometry shaped to create self-supporting features
• Controlled overhangs and bridging
• Balanced mass for stable printing
• Optimized for standard FDM printers with a 0.4 mm nozzle
Character of the Model
This is not a decorative remix.
This is a functional design study, exploring how a familiar test object can grow into a small architectural scene — boat, rock, lighthouse, story.
Recommended Print Settings
• Layer height: 0.16–0.20 mm
• Material: PLA
• Supports: minimal (automatic supports recommended)
• Compatible with Bambu Lab, Creality, Prusa, ******** and similar FDM machines
Purpose
Designed for makers who enjoy prints that combine technical discipline with artistic form.
Suitable as a display piece, print test, or material comparison model.
