It's been snowing a lot this season and I really wanted to get some of the heavy snow off my roof. There are tools like this that you can buy, but what's the fun in that?

There are two printed parts, the blade and the socket. I printed mine in PETG, I suggest using the strongest filament you have because these parts do experience a lot of force pushing through the snow. Some of the first versions I did cracked where the pole screws in after a bit of use. To prevent this print it standing up tall and use a LOT of perimeters, I used 10 and that seemed to be strong enough. The blade can print without supports sitting on it's edge (print two for the full length version I did).

To put it all together you will need some items that you can buy at Home Depot, or probably most hardware stores. I used the Telescoping pole they sell, I believe either the 18 or 24 ft version will screw in. A piece of plywood about 12mm thick,  cut 480 mm wide to fit two blades or 240 if you want it with one blade the length can be about 30cm but really as long as the socket piece fits it can be shorter. I used the screws in the picture but probably most small machine screws would fit the holes. I also cut a piece of tarp to give the snow something to slide down on, just screw through it to keep it in place.

To use it just push it up your roof and most of the snow should slide right off. This works best if you do it right after the snow has fallen and is light and fluffy, it gets harder once the snow has melted and refrozen after a day or two. I have an asphalt shingle roof and this worked well for me without damaging the roof. I can't guarantee that this will work on every roof type, use at your own discretion.
