Description
Picking the right layer height makes or breaks your prints. Here is a quick guide to choosing the best layer height for every situation.
What Layer Height Does
Layer height controls how thick each printed layer is. Thinner layers (0.1mm) give smoother surfaces but take longer. Thicker layers (0.3mm) print faster but show visible lines.
Quick Reference
How to Choose
Your nozzle size limits your layer height. With a standard 0.4mm nozzle, stay between 0.08mm and 0.32mm (20-80%% of nozzle diameter). Going outside that range causes quality issues.
I print 90%% of my stuff at 0.2mm on my Ender 3 V2 and Bambu Lab A1 Mini. That is the sweet spot for speed and quality.
Included Test Print
The companion STL is a stepped test block with 4 different heights (2mm, 4mm, 6mm, 8mm). Print it at different layer heights to see the difference yourself.
