Description
This bin is designed to be able to be printed on many printers with the common 256x256x256 build volume. With the proper print settings, this is an easy print that requires no supports whatsoever and allows for a TPU seal to be combined with the lid, permanently trapping the lid in place.
Print the basket with as many bottom layers as you wish, no top layers, no infill, and enough walls to make the walls about 0.8mm thick for the best results.
Print these parts in a rigid material of your choice with typical settings, e.g. 2 walls, 10-15% infill, normal top & bottom layers.
This is the trickiest part: in your slicer, add a pause right before the top flap is printed. I have used multi-material in the picture to demonstrate where the split should be - just before layer 21 if you are printing with 0.2mm layers.
When the printer is paused, place the lid inside and center it before resuming the print. The printer should start to print on top of the lid, eventually encasing it within the seal. I used TPU for the seal and PETG for the lid. This combination bonds moderately well - in my experience it is a more solid bond than TPU to PLA. While the bond is not necessary for the final result, having the TPU bond with the lid will result in a cleaner result.
Place the threads of the knob through the lid and fasten it using the nut. The TPU seal should provide a decent seal on the bin when the lid is in place.
