I've been working on a project that calls for some hay bales so I wanted to make a set of these. I looked up the standard sizing and then converted that to 32mm dnd scale (1' == 5mm). At that scale they ended up being pretty small so I've included 2x and 4x scale versions here. If you want them official scale you can print the 2x ones at 50% or you can use the 4x scale if you want bales that offer cover or work as elevated platforms. The Hay Piles I made in a separate file so there is only one size of them similar scale to the 2x models - feel free to adjust as needed but they should be supportless regardless.

As usual I've created a "Patreon Exclusive" mimic variant as well. This one I have for free (for now) over on my Patreon so if you're interested in a mimic to add to your Hay Bale / farm field scene then grab it while you can over here: Hay Bale Mimic Patreon Exclusive!

For variations I've got 2 string bales, 3 string, large round bales and hay stacks which are more fitting with a medieval / fantasy aesthetic. I don't think that any of the standard bales would be in a fantasy setting vs old style hay stacks but you can just say these were made with magic ;)

For my process on these I started with scale rectoibs and cylinders then quad remeshed them and then displaced with a corrugated metal / asbestos material then I sculpted the edges. I tried the same thing for the Hay Stack but ended up sculpting it by hand instead.

I usually print my props in FDM - you can print these in resin but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it (unless you're printing the mimic!).

Since these are really simple models they should print supportlessly but if you choose to add supports it shouldn't hurt anything (for resin you'd want to hollow and re-orient and add auto supports - I don't think these should be resin printed !)

You can follow along with me on Patreon here to get sneak peaks at my upcoming projects, exclusive minis / models and more!
