Description
This simple 3D printable guide helps you cut 28.6 mm carbon steerer tubes straight and accurately. It aligns your saw blade and keeps the cut square, which is especially helpful when shortening carbon forks.
The guide consists of two compliant clamps, each tightened with a single bolt. The clamps are mounted on the steerer tube and act as a guide for the saw blade.
To set the correct spacing between the two clamps, simply place a credit card between them while tightening the bolts. This creates a precise slot that guides the saw blade and helps ensure a clean, straight cut.
The model is designed to use M5 × 30 mm or M5 × 35 mm bolts, which are commonly used for flat mount disc brake calipers. This makes it easy to reuse bolts you may already have in your workshop.
Print two clamps
No supports required
PLA or PETG recommended
3–4 perimeters recommended for strength
Two versions of the model are included to account for printer tolerances and different preferences:
5 mm bore – for direct use with standard M5 bolts
4.8 mm bore – for a tighter fit or if you prefer to tap the threads
The guide is technically reusable, but it is primarily intended as a simple, low-cost tool for occasional or single use. If it gets worn or damaged by the saw blade, simply print another one.
Designed for 28.6 mm steerer tubes (standard 1 1/8")
