Description
CREALITY RFID SPOOL DESICCANT HUB
Keep your filament dry during storage by placing desiccant directly inside the spool.
The Creality RFID Spool Desiccant Hub utilizes the original hub space inside Creality RFID spools and converts the center of the spool into a high-capacity desiccant chamber.
Unlike simple desiccant tubes that only use the center cylinder, this design utilizes the unused space around the internal wedge structure inside the Creality hub. This dramatically increases the amount of desiccant that can be stored inside the spool.
The result is a desiccant capacity of approximately:
1.5 cups of desiccant beads!
Perfect for controlling humidity while filament is stored on shelves, racks, or inside dry containers.
This model is designed specifically for Creality RFID filament spools.
It will NOT fit standard filament spools or non-RFID Creality spools.
Creality RFID spools contain a specific center hub geometry. This model takes advantage of that design and converts it into a desiccant storage hub.
Creality RFID filament spools contain internal wedge supports that leave a surprising amount of unused space around the center hub.
This design was created to take advantage of that otherwise wasted volume by turning the entire hub area into a desiccant chamber.
The result is dramatically increased desiccant capacity compared to simple center-tube desiccant solutions.
🧵 RFID SPOOL COMPATIBLE
Designed specifically for Creality RFID filament spools.
No modifications to the spool are required.
Utilizes both:
• the center hub cylinder
• the surrounding wedge cavities
to maximize desiccant capacity.
Holds approximately:
1.5 cups of desiccant beads! If your filament doesn't stay dry now, you've been storing it in your bathtub!
The hub features multiple ventilation openings that allow moisture to circulate through the desiccant chamber while filament remains inside the spool.
The hub consists of two threaded parts that screw together for easy access.
Printed threads allow the hub to be opened and closed whenever the desiccant needs to be refreshed or replaced.
Finger Nub Design around the perimeter allow you to seal and unseal the hub easily.
A separate helper model is included to make filling and emptying desiccant easier.
The funnel is not part of the hub itself but can be printed to guide desiccant beads into the hub and help prevent spills. Trust Me...You Want To Print One!
The optional desiccant funnel model uses the
Hyperion Creations Breakaway Support System (HCBSS).
This support structure is designed directly into the model to ensure a clean print without slicer-generated supports.
Benefits include:
• No slicer supports required
• Easy support removal
• Minimal surface scarring
• Reliable printing on most machines
Simply print the funnel as provided and remove the breakaway support structure after printing. No Tools Should Be Needed!!
(.STL of the funnel without HCBSS objects is included in case you want to use your own supports or slicer setup)
The arrows and chevrons on the hub are designed so they can be colorized when using a multi-color printer.
These allows users to customize the appearance of the hub if desired.
Single-color prints will function exactly the same. STL versions of all 3 pieces are included to make things easier.
The base of the hub includes three alignment chevrons to help position the hub correctly during installation.
When installing the hub:
• Align the chevron marker on the hub base with the “filament remaining” indicator molded into the Creality spool.
This ensures the internal hub wedges with filament tail cut-outs align with the correct spool wedges.
Correct alignment allows the hub to slide fully into the spool without the filament tail interfering with installation.
Print the hub base and threaded cap.
Align the chevron marker with the spool indicator and install the hub base.
Fill the hub with silica gel or desiccant beads.
Thread the cap onto the hub to secure the desiccant chamber.
Your filament spool now contains a high-capacity internal desiccant system.
These settings should produce reliable results on most printers.
Layer Height: 0.20 mm
Walls: 3
Infill: 15–20%
Supports: None Required
Material: PLA or PETG
This model uses printed threads to connect the hub halves.
For best results:
• Use 0.20 mm layer height or smaller
• Avoid very fast draft print profiles
• Ensure good bed adhesion for the tall hub body
Because the hub body is relatively tall, if you have any trouble with bed adhesion then using a brim is recommended to help keep the print stable throughout the print.
3D printed threads may feel slightly snug the first time.
Simply thread the pieces together and back apart a few times to wear in the threads for smooth operation.
Do not force the threads if they feel cross-threaded.
*MAKER TIP: Highly suggest using Food Grade Multi-Purpose Silicone Grease if you print lots of threaded parts. Helps with first assembly and thread longevity.
This hub works with common reusable desiccants such as:
• silica gel beads
• color-changing desiccant beads (Recommended)
When the desiccant becomes saturated, remove the hub and recharge the beads according to the manufacturer’s instructions and reinstall.
• RFID Spool Desiccant Hub – Base
• RFID Spool Desiccant Hub – Lid
• Optional Desiccant Funnel Tool (HCBSS Smart Support)
Standard STL files are included for users who:
• prefer to print without multicolor features
• want to slice the model using their own support settings
• prefer not to use the HCBSS support structure on the funnel
These STL files provide maximum flexibility while the prepared models offer the easiest printing experience.
