Description
This is a display model of Staurastrum longipes (Nordst.) Teiling, a common freshwater green alga. As part of the order Desmidiales, this single-celled phytoplankton consists of two distinct hemispheres (semicells), connected by a constriction (Sinus). The species contains two chloroplasts. In this models, both plastids were fused for design reasons.
The model is best printed as seen in the pictures. The model can be mounted on a 13mm (⌀ 4.6 mm). The model of the stand can be downloaded here.
