SMLight SLZB-06 / SLZB-MR Magnetic Mount

This is a magnetic mount for SMLight SLZB Zigbee Ethernet / USB LAN adapters.

It builds on my original screw-mounted design, but replaces screws with press-fit magnets.  If you prefer to install with screws, check out the original version. 

What’s different in this version

This model is designed to use magnets:

• once installed, the magnets are firmly retained and won’t fall out during normal use

• No glue is required:

  • Flexible grip fins hold the magnets securely

  • Lead-in chamfers help magnets press in easily. Insert from the inside/front of the model.

  • Compliance so tolerances across printers/materials aren’t an issue

  • Through-hole design so magnets can be removed easily for reuse

What size magnets?

I parameterized the model to support different magnet sizes.  The diameter can change, but the maximum thickness supported is 3mm.

I recommend using 6mm x 2mm or 6mm x 3mm Neodymium magnets (N42 or N52).  Some users have reported that using only 2 magnets wasn't strong enough (likely not using Neodymium magnets), so I have since added a model that can hold 5 magnets.

I also published models for 8mm magnets.  But those magnets are a bit large for the x5 (5 magnet model) .. so I made a 4 magnet model.

How it works

Same core design as the original, using compliant features:

• Small retaining nubs align with vent holes and hold the device securely without blocking airflow

• Flex slots allow easy install/removal

• Two large keys + outer rim prevent side-to-side movement

• Device removes by pulling straight out

The fit is tuned to balance snugness with ease of use.

Mounting

• Insert the magnets from the inside/front and push flush to the back of the mount

• Snap in the SLZB adapter

• Attach to any ferrous surface (rack, cabinet, enclosure, etc.)

Printing

• Print on its back

• 3 wall loops

• PLA or PETG both work well
