Description
Lacking Speedi and Planet3 support for my bike did I make my own construction.
Gives 1.5 x restricted speed, i.e. about 37-38 km/h for a 25 km/h bike. Fits many eMTB bikes with:
19 mm cylindrical shaft on hub, like Newmen Fade for example. Pressfit is used to lock the outer part in place.
Standard 6 x bolts brake disc mount with max 9.2 mm head diameter and head height 2.7 mm.
or 6 new low profile bolts with cylindrical 8,5x3,5 mm heads (usally M5, 10 mm long). This secure the inner part from wobbling and is much better to use than with standard bolts, for a quiet ride.
or with grip around Magura MDR-C 203 mm brake disc which for instance Radon Render 10.0 750 uses.
Or Shimano Centerlock version which is available now.
The unit are 74mm in diameter and from 6.3 mm thick (measured from brakedisc, so very small to fit all kind of rear forks.
Made the kit in modules now (from v2*) so you can pick whatever parts you need, with different tolerances et.c.
You need to download Planet gear, Spur gear of choice and Sun gear of choice, for a complete set.
Tested on Radon Render 10.0 750 2024. You need to download and print Speedhub Spur Magura, Sun gear 19mm / 1mm and Planet gear for that bike.
* Version 2 (v2) isn't interchangable with the original "Speedhub ratio 1.5 PETG 4 perimeters.3MF" parts.
Printed in PETG on Prusa Core One with 0.2 mm layer and 4 perimeters. Print with gearside up, to get as smooth internal finish as possible.
One Neodym Magnet with 10 mm diameter and 2 mm thickness is needed.
Good reliability and durability. At least one buyer has ride 1000km / 620 miles with one unit printed in PETG.
Instructions when finished printing:
On wheel:
Remove wheel and Remove original magnet (last picture) and reassemble the 2 screws, holding it in place.
If using new bolts remove 2 of them and press ring gear on them and secure the other 4 when it's in place.
Printed parts:
Remove 6 x support plastics from ring gear (inner part)
or other support if printed Centerlock or Magura versions
Press 10 mm magnet in place on the small planet gear and check so it's centered/flush.
Check clearence between ring gear and sun/outer gear before assemble. Should not bind in center.
Fit ring gear on the 6 screws or snap in place with Centerlock or Magura versions. Shall be in contact with brake disc.
Place the small planet gear on it.
Set Sun gear in place on shaft. If necessary tap very gentle with 19-20 mm socket on Sun gear (outer) for the first mm. Should be press fit as it holds ring/inner gear as well. A second magnet can be used to hold and spin planet gear, to get the sun/inner gear in place. Press last part with bare fingers fit against ring/inner part with a small slot, without interference. Rotate axel with sun/outer gear and listen for clearance. Adjust with nails/fingers if necessary.
Reassemble the wheel on bike:
Remember to check clearance when fitted on the bike and torque shaft with right torque.
Turn off GPS and location services for Bosch Flow app. I turned it off both in operating system (Apple IOS) and in the app itself, to avoid bricking the engine, which I have read can happen otherwise.
Happy biking!!
