Description

Here is an improved version of my Truchet Pattern Chainmail Fabric. It uses a chainmail-style structure that connects all the pieces together, allowing it to move and behave like fabric while still having the look and character of armour.

The biggest improvement in this version is that the panels can now be inter-connected, making it much easier to build larger wearable pieces or expand the design into more complete armour sections. Apart from magnets, these fabric panels can also be connected using 3D printed connectors, which can be reinforced with glue if needed. For a cleaner and more modular connection method, the panels can also be joined using 5 x 2 mm magnets.

I have also included four different sizes, from small to large, so you can choose the size that best suits your project.

Because each fabric panel is hexagonal, magnet installation needs a little attention. When installing the magnets, make sure that adjacent edges do not use the same polarity orientation. For example, if one edge has the magnet installed with its positive side facing inward, then the magnets on the two neighbouring edges should be installed with their positive side facing outward. This alternating arrangement is important if you want the panels to connect properly.

This makes it a great option for wearable armour projects, costume builds, experimental fabric-like prints, or anyone interested in flexible interlinked structures.
