Description
Short version: Already tested and working.
After 80 kilometers my front fender broke (normal size fender - PLA material). I hit a really big hole and the weight of the fender and the energy of the impact caused the fender to break. PLA is a hard material. The front fender which doesn't have support like the rear one would be better printed in PETG. I added a shorter version of the fender for PLA. The lower part printed from PLA is OK.
For those, who don't drive on broken roads like me, the PLA is fine.
27.4.2026 - User @MarcD_3592707 reports a similar problem to what happened to me.
Normal size fender - PETG material - Fender cracked after a few kilometers.
I don't recommend printing a normal size fender right now. I'm not ruling it out completely yet, but it will take some time to figure out. Find the ideal material and settings (if any).
If this fender lasts 200 kilometers without any damage, then I will update this description to already tested and working. ;-)
Print settings:
5 perimeters
15% infill
Supports everywhere (Support blocker in holes for bolts and nuts)
Fender flare - TPU material - 100% infill
Mounting material:
Allen head screws: 8x M3x20, 2x M3x16
10x M3 lock nut
2x washer - Under the head of the bolt for mounting the fender flare (M3x16)
Tips:
Print the parts as they are, there is no need to rotate them. The layers of the print thus pass across the grip and the print is more resistant to the stress that will be placed on it.
If you don't have or can't print TPU material, you can print the fender flare from PLA as a template, which you can trace onto linoleum or something similar flexible and then cut it out.
For easier assembly, you can glue the nuts in place with superglue. But be careful not to get the glue into the thread.
First, screw in all the screws only lightly and then tighten them carefully, ideally in a cross pattern.
Keep in mind that the part is printed and not injection molded, so use reasonable tightening force and lock nuts.
I wish you many happy kilometers without accidents!
I would be happy for your feedback.
