OTTO UNIT 01

Introduction

During the last war, humanity died out. But the Ottos survived.

They continued to roam the empty world, gathering what remained. They had one purpose, written deep in their oldest code: evolve. And so, from the ruins, the new generation was born.

OTTO UNIT 01 - rebuilt for the world that was left behind. A wider wheelbase carries it steadily across the endless wasteland. Redesigned with a body capable of expressing emotion - however primitive - so they might better understand one another.

The redesign of the HP Otto focused on adding personality using a head that can move side to side and up and down. Here you can see some preprogrammed emotions:

Assembly

You will need the HP Otto Starter Pack, as well as 2 additional angle servos, that are included in the Invent kit. The robot was designed to be printed in multiple color without a multi-color printer. Where possible, the part click into place. Some more demanding parts are held together with M2x6 Socket Head screws.

I don't have the Otto kit, but it was tested using RP2040-Zero and standard hobby servos with code written in CircuitPython and ported to MicroPython.

The wheels use 360 degree servos and the tilt-pan mechanism uses 180 degree angle servos. I couldn't find how long is the provided cable for the ultrasonic sensor, so an extension might be needed.
