Description

My Mac Mini now has several SSDs attached full time. I previously used my model (https://www.printables.com/model/1463273-mac-mini-ssd-and-cable-management-stand). that housed a single SSD but I've now outgrown that and decided to create an expandable version.

There are 3 components: a top, middle and base/bottom.

  1. Top piece whose sole purpose is to hold up the Mini above the topmost SSD

  2. Middle piece which enables the expandability with each middle holding one SSD

  3. Bottom piece which provides the cable passthrough as well as holding an SSD

For a single SSD you only need the top and bottom. If you have more than one SSD add a middle for each additional unit. In other words for 2 SSDs you would print one of each of the 3 models. For 3 SSDs you would print 2 middle models to combine with one base and one top and so on. If you don't need or want the cable passthrough you can omit the base and use a middle component as the bottom piece which would save some time and filament. And if you don't intend to stack a Mini on top the top piece can be omitted.

The components connect to each other using a small pin and hole arrangement. It is a lose friction fit so you can easily take the stack apart for maintenance or future expansion. The interior dimension of the SSD area is 80mm x 90mm x 21mm which is sufficient for any of the SSDs I own with a bit of headroom for heat dissipation (the hefty Samsung T7, Samsung T5 and a diminutive Crucial X10). The dimensions provide a bit of a gap for heat flow with interior ventilation holes as well as a wide opening in the back where the SSD's cables exit. You can optionally put some small rubber feet on the bottom corners of the base so heat can also dissipate through the bottom holes.

Like my previous model, this stand has cable slots on the bottom so any cable plugged into one of the front ports can be neatly passed to the back maintaining a clean and efficient setup. The width of the models are dimensioned to match the Mini and the power button at the back is exposed via a small cutout.

All parts print without supports. I have included the STL which has all 3 components (you can split them into objects in PrusaSlicer or etc) as well as a 3MF file for each individual component if you prefer to go that route.

Use this at your own risk as all responsibility for ensuring your devices are operating safely is yours.
