Description
A simple handle to make manually rotating the chuck for tapping easy.
requires
M5 170mm threadded bar for draw bar
M5 nut for draw bar
M5 locking nut for draw bar
M5 locking nut for Knob
M5 40mm bolt for Knob
M5 3 washers for Knob
100 x 16 x 1.6mm mending plate (or flat bar cut and drilled to size)
superglue
Print main body standing on flat handle with 'rod' pointing up, pause printing at layer 28 to add mending plate to strengthen the handle. Print with 4 outer layers and 50% infill for strength. I printed with PETG but suspect PLA would also work.
To assemble
Add lock nut to end of threadded bar and add a drop of superglue and fix to wedge - Ensure narro end is pointing away from the nut and towards the threaded bar sticking out
Press nut into star knob (can add superglue if you want for extra hold)
Thread wedge bar assembly into main body and screww on star nut to hold - leave it loose so it is not expanding the body or it will not fit in the lathe
Attack knob to end of handle with bolt and locking nut - use washers between bearing surfaces and only tighten to take out slop and allow it to spin
To Use
Insert into headstock then turn starnut to tighten the cone into the body to fix it firmly.
To remove loosen star nut then tap in to release the wedge then you can withdraw the whole assembly.
