Description
This is a PRUSA-themed desktop fan built using an inexpensive, well-reviewed 3-speed donor fan (link below).
The original base is reused, since its tilt mechanism is smooth and reliable. A custom base extension supports the larger filament-spool-style fan grill. Two optional sub-bases are included as decorative trim. The V2 sub-base features embossed recesses that allow you to reuse the rubber feet from the original base if you carefully remove and relocate them.
The diffuser dome and fan hub are bonded to a PRUSA filament spool core and then attached to the fan shroud. The shroud itself uses tabs modeled after the original fan grill, allowing it to twist-lock securely onto the motor base.
The fan hub includes a PRUSA logo embossed at multiple layer heights, enabling a multi-color effect on single-extruder printers by pausing for filament swaps.
Bill of Materials

3D printed parts (included in this project)
Adhesive (choose one):
Acrylic cement (my choice)
CA glue (cyanoacrylate)
Hot glue (easy and removable)
Optional:
Original rubber feet (salvaged from donor base)
Print Settings
Layer Height: 0.2 mm recommended
Infill: 10–20%
Perimeters: 2–3
Supports:Â Varies (depending on your slicer and orientation)
Brim: Optional for larger parts, depending on filament and plate
Material: PLA works well; PETG also suitable for added durability
Multi-Color Printing (Logo)
The fan hub includes an embossed PRUSA logo at different layer heights.
To achieve a multi-color effect with a single extruder:
Slice the model as usual
Add pause(s) at the layer(s) where the logo height changes
Swap filament colors at each pause
Resume printing
Assembly Instructions
Disassemble Donor Fan
Remove the original fan grill while keeping the base and motor assembly intact.
Prepare Base
Attach the printed base extension to the original base.
Add optional sub-base trim if desired.
(Install rubber feet into V2 sub-base if reusing them.)
Build Fan Hub Assembly
Bond the diffuser dome and fan hub to the filament core
Allow adhesive to fully cure
Attach to Shroud
Glue the completed hub/core assembly to the printed fan shroud
Final Installation
Align the tabs on the printed shroud with the motor base
Twist-lock into place just like the original grill
