Description
Thanks to @ArtDesign for realizing it's absolutely essential to protect the Snapmaker U1 electronics compartment (PCB) from the heat of the printer chamber, especially if you plan to enclose your Snapmaker U1 with a TopHat or Lid and print high temperature filaments! And if you install a driver fan mod, this will also help prevent the heat you are trying to build up in the chamber from being blown out the side of the printer.
I had some trouble printing the original design which is oriented vertically (standing up). I realized the only part preventing it from being printed flat were half of two side "feet" which turned out to be unnecessary. With those removed, the divider can be printed flat on a printer with at least a 300mm bed. Versions lying flat oriented horizontally and diagonally have been provided.
While I was hacking off half the feet, I also realized that it would be good to make the divider a bit thicker to match the U1 case and provide a little more protection for the electronics. With a 4010 fan actively cooling the PCB heat sink, this divider has helped keep stepper temperatures to 57C max with the U1 door closed, Thick Srin TopHat Remix on and front lid open printing PLA for over 3 hours. I will provide an update on driver temps once I have had a chance to print ASA or ABS with the TopHat closed.
I printed my divider in black Polymaker ASA with 4 walls and 5 top and bottom shell layers, 0.2-layer height, 0.25 first layer, 0.4-line width for all line types (Voron standard) and 25% infill. Grid \ Snug supports are recommended for the screw holes. With ASA or ABS, I also recommend an 8mm brim.
To install simply follow @ArtDesign's instructions, removing the small piece of case plastic originally planned for an optical switch that turned out to be unnecessary. I used M3 x 10mm button head screws with M3 washers to attach the divider to the existing screw holes in the bottom of the case, and did not need to secure the top. When screwing in the screws, do not tighten the front one as much as the back to keep the divider from tilting forward.
Note: this mod does require you to remove the right-side panel of your Snapmaker U1. To do so, carefully follow Snapmaker's how-to video located here: U1 Video Guide: How to Remove the Side Panels.
Happy printing!
