Prusament Spool Sunflower:
For the Prusament Spool Upcycling Contest I thought to make a design that can be adaptable. My idea is a Prusament Spool Sunflower that can be a Wall Mount Clock or an Outdoor Windmill. The Hexagons on the Prusament Spool makes a good center design for the Sunflower. I used the Prusa Dummy Spool File to make this model since I don't have a new version of the Prusament Spool to test all the parts. I used 0.2mm tolerances throughout. This design also uses a lot of filament so by the time you're finished printing you will have an empty spool to use.Â
There are 12 Pedals that make up the Sunflower. 2 of them can fit on an MK3 build plate. If you would like to use a brim rotate the part 90 degrees and print one at time. I use 0.2mm Quality settings, 3 perimeters and then change the layer height to 0.3mm. There are two Pedal design options with slight variation to choose from, Option 1 and Option 2, select one of them and print 12.Â
The Sunflower Pedal Mounts use M3x18 Fasteners and M3 Hex Nuts or M3 Nyloc Nuts. There is space for 12 mounts total that line up with the hex pattern on the spool. The Fastener Mounts go on the backside of the spool and the Hex Nut Mounts go on the inside. There are 2 mounts at 12, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 o'clock positions. I included an image of the mounting locations. When locating the mounting spots the Prusa logo on the spool should be off to the right hand side as shown in the pictures. The Clock Wall Mount is a larger mount that goes in the 12 o'clock position and mounts with the same hardware. You could even go longer on the fasteners for the Wall Mount especially if you use Nyloc Nuts. I use 0.15mm Quality settings, 5 perimeters and 90% triangles infill for the mounts.Â
The Clock Movement used is a Hicarer High Torque Quartz Movement. I believe the Clock Movement Mount fits in the Spool the way I have it drawn but I will have to check it out when I have the new version of the Spool on hand. The clock hands are designed to fit this movement, the second hand gets glued on to the little cap supplied with the movement.Â
If you would like to build the clock using Version 1 of the Prusament Spool I included a Clock Movement Mount that fits the Original Spool. Additionally you will need to trim the inner cardboard tube 3/16" since the Version 2 Prusement Spool isn't as wide as Version 1. I included a picture to show.Â
The Windmill Axle is designed to fit and rotate inside a 2" PVC pipe (2.375" OD x 2.047" ID) which makes the Sunflower Stem (just paint it green). I purchased a 5' long PVC pipe from the hardware store and then buried it 1' into the ground. I also included the files to print the Stem in sections if you would like to.Â
