Description
A super cheap and simple way to upcycle a new prusament spool into a water turbine wheel. the conversion is fully reversible and uses no additional hardware. Use the 9mm hexagonal connectors to add to customize for your project.
It's a perfect model to teach children mechanical engineering or try out a fun project without wasting a bunch of filament :)
BOM:
Clips: 24x
End-stops: 12x
Plates: 6x
Wheel Hub: 2x
Print orientation (support enabled):
Assembly instructions:
Step 1:
Snap all clips into place from the inside of the spool. See image to the right for placement, they should line up on both sides of the spool.
Step 2:
Slide plate into place, make sure it goes in between the guides on the clips. The indentations in the corners should line up with the end-stops.
Step 3:
Clip in the end-stops to lock the plate in place, one on each side. They have to be inserted at an angle to snap into place (see image).
Step 4:
Repeat steps 2 & 3 for all 6 plates and 12 end-stops.
Step 5:
Line up the wheel hubs and snap them into place in the center on both sides.
Step 6:
Let your imagination run wild and attach whatever you want to the hexagonal connector on the hubs.
FYI:
I don't actually own any of the new prusament spools, the fit has been approximated as well as possible with the dummy spool model and tested on small test prints as seen in the GIFs. The proof of concept is done on a minimal filament use representation of the prusament spool. If you own a new prusament spool and print out this model please give feedback on the fit and I will adjust the tolerances to the best of my ability.
