Description
Introducing my attempt at a natural birdhouse, at least, more natural than the average birdhouse.
This was designed with bluebirds and other cavity dwelling songbirds of diminutive size, the birdhouse features a 2"x1 3/8" oval opening which was tested and approved by bluebirds over round and slot designs, while also being specifically sized to help protect against starlings, pigeons, and other nest robbing birds.
The cap is designed to securely slide into place, but also to be super easy to remove for annual cleaning. Just simply tip the birdhouse upside down and everything will just fall right out!
The birdhouse also features a double keyslot mounting design that fits normal woodscrews or deck screws, I would recommend something galvanized, stainless or painted screws to prevent rusting or damage to trees or posts.
All this for roughly 250g of filament, 1/4 of a 1kg spool, meaning you can print 3 to 4 birdhouses on a single roll.
I recommend printing in PETG or ASA, PLA may also work but it may not withstand direct sunlight for a long period of time. I printed mine with a 0.6mm nozzle.
