Description
Inspired by the "Upcycling NEW Prusament Spools" competition.
Instead of binning your old filament spool you can print this to connect 2 spools and reuse them as a cable or rope winder.
The one in the pictures holds 10m of electrical cable.
Everything snaps in.
The Handles can be removed for better storage.
Unfortunately, I don't have a Prusament spool, but measurements from the dummy spool shows that the inside hole diameter is around 52mm
The attached models are 52mm and 57.5mm, inside hole diameter and 100m outside diameter.
For your own custom spool:
Attached is a FreeCad v1.1 file.
Update the VarSet values.
Measure the inside hole diameter and update the spool_inside_dia value.
Measure your outside spool diameter and update spool_outside_dia
You'll need 2 of each, printed in whatever you prefer. I used PLA, but PETG might be better for the snap fits.
SpoolConnectorPlate_PrusaSpool_52mm or Spool_Connector_plate57mm
Handle
Plate_joiner
or
You can just print the SpoolConnectorPlate_PrusaSpool_52mm or Spool_Connector_plate57mm and use 2x 10mm bold or threaded rods.
Snap a Handle and Joiner on each side.
Push them together through the spool holes on opposite sides.
