I've been using the original for some time now without a problem, but a new spool started to uncoil over the edge of the spool due to the loose back spin on retraction as some others have mentioned. I decided that a "damper" would be the simplest solution. Just a tee with a strip of 2mm sheet foam (available at craft stores) super glued to the top surface to add a slight amount of friction to the spool edge did the trick so I thought I would publish this if it might help someone else having this problem.

Measure the bottom of the spool to the table and cut a dowel to that length. Attach the base directly under the spool with a screw to hold it in place. Insert the dowel into the base and the tee on top of the dowel. I didn't add a screw hole but you should be able to drill your own.

Adjust so the tee barely touches the edge of the spool (should be enough wiggle room to adjust the tee up or down as needed). This will give it just enough friction to avoid uncontrolled spinning and loose enough to not drag the filament to the extruder.

I used a 3/8" wooden dowel as a shaft because I live in a primitive country that has yet to switch to metric, but it shouldn't be that hard to adjust with whatever CAD program you might have or just remake as needed.
