Sit down and watch the light. In the Sink, the darkness isn't just an absence of sun; it’s a living, hungry malice. We call these Beast Omens - jagged tears in reality that drift toward the sound of your heartbeat.
I once watched a fresh Captain ignore an Omen because it was 'just a shadow.' By the time it entered his lantern's glow, it wasn't a shadow anymore - it was a forgotten fiend that unmade his warband with darkness and hatred.
If you hear a twig snap within an inch of your ear, don't look back. Just pray to whatever god is listening that it's an echo and not one of your nightmares. Out here, if you're not checking the Ledger, you’re just filling it: Keep your torches burning, or the Sink will find a use for your bones.
