Description
This is version 2 of my printable jar with a cutout in the lid to insert a cheap hygrometer.
It is fully printable, including the gasket. No tools are required for assembly.
There are two models: one with the cutout and one without.
The lid consists of three parts: the main lid, the gasket, and the bottom piece that friction-fits the gasket.
The fit of the bottom piece is very snug. I place the main lid upside down on the floor (without the hygrometer installed), then put the gasket on, and finally position the bottom piece slightly angled on top. To assemble it, I step on the bottom piece with my full weight to press everything together.
The gasket is printed in TPU 85A, but harder materials are also fine - they just won’t be as smooth when opening and closing.
If everything is done correctly, the jar is pretty much airtight. You can hear the air escaping when closing the lid.
I print them with a 0.6 mm nozzle and 0.4 mm layer height, but other sizes should work fine as well.
To make cleaning easier, I enable ironing for the inside bottom of the jar.
