Orbit Nest Bowl – Twisted Two-Part Decorative Catchall

Orbit Nest Bowl is a modern, sculptural two-part bowl designed to combine functionality with a bold decorative look.

The model consists of an inner bowl and an outer twisted cradle that wraps around it like an orbit. The result is a light, architectural form that looks great on a desk, shelf, entryway table, coffee table, or next to your printer setup.

This project is great for experimenting with color combinations. Print the inner bowl and the outer cradle in contrasting colors for a strong modern look, or use one color for a more minimal, ceramic-style finish. The photos show a blue/orange version with a textured surface effect, but the model also works very well in matte PLA, silk PLA, PETG, marble filament, wood PLA, or neutral home-decor colors.

Recommended: scale both parts by the same percentage if you want a smaller or larger version.

• Inner bowl: approx. 132 mm diameter × 67 mm high

Final assembled height may vary slightly depending on how the bowl sits in the cradle.

Print settings

These are the settings I used for the test print:

• Printer: Anycubic Kobra 3 V2

• Material: PLA

• Nozzle: 0.4 mm

• Layer height: 0.20–0.22 mm

• Walls: 2–3

• Infill: 5–12%

• Infill pattern used: 3D honeycomb

• Top layers: 5

• Bottom layers: 3

• Supports:

  • Inner bowl: no supports needed

  • Outer cradle: tree supports recommended

• Brim: optional / recommended for the outer cradle

• Fuzzy skin: optional, but highly recommended for the textured decorative look

• Fuzzy skin thickness used: 0.3 mm

For the cleanest result, print the two parts separately and use contrasting colors.
