Lost Teotihuacán Jade Mask
The greenstone masks of ancient Teotihuacán, carved from prized materials like jadeite and serpentinite, feature an idealized, stoic face that was often originally detailed with striking shell and pyrite inlays. Because they were too heavy to be worn, historians believe these rare masterpieces were used as stationary ritual objects or affixed to mortuary bundles to embody deified ancestors.
