MODULAR TROPHY & DISPLAY STAND SYSTEM
The 3D-Printable Modular Grid That Grows With Your Collection
★ JUST FINISHED MY FIRST 3-TIER BUILD — THE PIECES JOIN TOGETHER BEAUTIFULLY. This is an open system. Design add-ons. Share remixes. Let's build something amazing together. |
What Is This?
This is a fully modular, tool-free, snap-together display stand system for 3D printing. Built around a universal 80 × 80 mm base tile, every piece in the system is designed to connect to every other piece — meaning you can build anything from a simple single-row shelf to a dramatic multi-tier trophy pyramid.
Medal ribbons? They drape cleanly down the side gaps and tuck neatly underneath, completely hidden from the front. Trophies, collectibles, gaming miniatures, sports medals, scale models — if it deserves to be shown off, this stand was made for it.
The Pieces
All pieces share the same 80 × 80 mm footprint and connect using bottom-mounted joiner clips. Every non-smooth (join) side features 2 clip slots, a side ribbon gap, and a bottom ribbon gap. Smooth display-facing sides are completely clean — no slots, no gaps, just a flush, polished exterior.
The Corner Piece — 2-Way
The anchor of every build. Place one at each corner of your layout — front or rear, it doesn't matter, because the piece is fully rotatable. Two clean smooth faces frame the display exterior beautifully, while two join sides lock to neighbouring pieces.
• 2 smooth display faces | 2 join sides | 4 clip slots | 2 side gaps | 2 bottom gaps
Tip: When building tiered stands, print Corner pieces for both the top and bottom row heights at every height junction.
The Facing Join — 3-Way
Your straight-edge workhorse. Used along any front, side or rear edge of the layout. One smooth outward face keeps the exterior looking pristine, while three join sides connect to the rest of the grid. Fully rotatable to suit any orientation.
• 1 smooth display face | 3 join sides | 6 clip slots | 3 side gaps | 3 bottom gaps
Tip: On multi-height builds, print Facing pieces for each row height along every visible edge.
The Connector Join — 4-Way
The powerhouse of large builds. No smooth sides here — every face is a join side. This piece sits in the centre of your grid, connecting to neighbours in all four directions. The more of these you use, the bigger your build can grow.
• 0 smooth faces | 4 join sides | 8 clip slots | 4 side gaps | 4 bottom gaps
The Special Base — 1-Way
A standalone display bay with three fully smooth walls and just one join side. Use it to create an isolated feature display, cap the end of a run cleanly, or extend any non-smooth wall. Its single join side means it always needs a neighbour — pair it with a 4-Way Connector or a 3-Way Facing to anchor it into your layout.
• 3 smooth display faces | 1 join side | 2 clip slots | 1 side gap | 1 bottom gap
Joiner Clips
The simple genius of the system. Each clip locks two adjacent pieces together from below. Two clips per shared edge, every time — regardless of which piece types are connecting. Print them in batches and keep a stock handy.
Quick Reference Table
Piece | Smooth Sides | Join Sides | Clip Slots | Side Gaps | Bottom Gaps |
Corner (2-way) | 2 | 2 | 4 | 2 | 2 |
Facing Join (3-way) | 1 | 3 | 6 | 3 | 3 |
Connector Join (4-way) | 0 | 4 | 8 | 4 | 4 |
Special Base (1-way) | 3 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 1 |
Available Heights
Every piece type is available in five heights, giving you enormous flexibility to build dramatic tiered displays:
20 mm · 40 mm · 60 mm · 80 mm · 100 mm
Mix heights across rows to create stepped risers, pyramid displays, or tiered medal shelves. The system is completely compatible across all heights — just ensure you print the correct piece types for each row.
How to Count Your Clips
Clips are always shared across a join — each shared edge between two pieces uses exactly 2 clips. To work out how many clips you need for any build:
• Count all internal shared edges in your layout
• Multiply by 2
• That's your clip total
Example: A 2 x 2 grid of 4-Way Connectors has 4 internal shared edges. 4 edges x 2 clips = 8 clips total.
Example: Adding one more piece to any existing edge = +2 clips. |
Example Build: 3-Tier Trophy Display
Here's the layout from the showcase image — a stepped 3-tier display that grows taller toward the back:
Row | Pieces | Height |
Front (Row 1) | 2x Corner + 2x Facing Join (3-way) | 20 mm |
Middle (Row 2) | 2x Facing Join (3-way) + 2x Connector Join (4-way) | 40 mm |
Back (Row 3) | 2x Corner (60mm) + 2x Facing Join (80mm) | 60 / 80 mm |
Medal & Ribbon Display
The system is designed specifically to show off medals and ribbons the right way. Ribbon gaps are cut into the side wall and bottom edge of every join side, allowing you to:
• Drape a medal ribbon down the outside face of a piece
• Route the ribbon under the base through the bottom gap
• The medal hangs neatly on the outside; the ribbon disappears cleanly underneath
Smooth display faces have no gaps at all — so the exterior of your stand looks completely clean and intentional from any viewing angle.
Print Settings
These settings are tried, tested and confirmed on the 3-tier showcase build.
Walls: 2 walls Infill: 10% (7% minimum acceptable) Supports: NONE REQUIRED
IMPORTANT: Always print with the flat bottom section on the build plate. No orientation changes needed — the model is already designed to print flat. |
Any standard FDM printer will handle these parts without issue. PLA works great. PETG gives extra durability if your display is in a warm environment.
Build On This — Add-Ons & Remixes Wanted!
This system is just the beginning. The 80 x 80 mm footprint and clip interface are open standards — if you can imagine it, you can design it to snap right in. Here are some ideas to get the community started:
• Tower mods — tall accent pieces for dramatic centrepiece displays
• Nameplate inserts — laser-engraved or printed name/event plates that sit flush in the open centre
• Riser adapters — step-up connectors that bridge between height levels with a smooth transition
• Angled display tiles — tilted faces for showing off medals at a viewing angle
• Lighting channels — hollow base sections routed for LED strips
• Sport-specific tiles — custom engravings or logos for football, swimming, athletics and more
• Trophy risers — tall single-piece columns for displaying cups and trophies
• Backplate panels — solid rear walls for wall-mounted display shelf configurations
★ If you design an add-on or remix — please share it! Tag your make, post your remix, and let's grow this into the ultimate modular display system. Every contribution makes the project better for everyone. |
