Description
This is a 3D model of the side brackets found on the official Creality Ender 3 light bar upgrade kit. I designed this for three reasons:
The original plastic mounts are prone to cracking, especially under tight screw tension.
The original mounts were limited to being mounted on the top extrusion, but I already had KevinAkaSam's Belted Z mod installed there.
I wanted a mirrored design so that the cables could be run down the other side of the printer.
This design addresses these issues by making the mounts easily reprintable in any material you want. It also uses screws and T-nuts to mount instead of a press fit. Finally, I have included the aforementioned mirrored design along with the normal design in case you would like to route the cables differently.
As this design will be screwed into the printer, I would recommend printing with more walls and infill than usual. Additionally, if your printer is in an enclosure, more temperature-resistant materials such as PETG or ABS/ASA are ideal. I printed mine in PETG, and it has held up despite my printer being in the Creality tent enclosure.
This design requires no extra hardware to mount where the original mounts are meant to go, but it requires 2 M5 screws and 2 M5 T-nuts to mount it on the side extrusions rather than the default top ones.
When swapping the power switch, it may be hard to pop out of the original bracket; it has two clips on the top and bottom inside the bracket that must be pressed together to slide the switch out, and this can be a bit tricky. However, it is possible, allowing you to put the switch in the new design.
