Xeigu G90 stand, sunshade and damage protection

Use case

The Xeigu G90 is a very popular portable shortwave transceiver for amateur radio. It's small form factor, lightweight and moderate output power makes it perfect for doing outside amateur radio activities like POTA (parks on the air) or SOTA (summits on the air). I love mine for that purpose.

The only inconvenience with this radio is that its knobs, keys and display is basically not accessible when the device is put flat in front of you on a table at home or on top of a transport box in the middle of nowhere. This design combines a damage protection frame for the front, a sun shade and a stand to lift the device 30°. Try it out... it makes a hell of a difference to use it conveniently. 

The stand is foldable and made in a way that the radio with the mounted frame and stand does still fit into the original packaging, which serves nicely as a transport protection.

You don't want the protecting overhang on the front? No problem, simply cut away as much at the bottom of the part in the slicer. For example, I have added on part that is reduced in overhang by 12mm, so it leave just a few millimeters of the overhang, for easier access of the buttons and knobs (but obviously without the transport protection effect).

Printing

The frame is ideally printed with supports on the larger cutout and with a brim to keep it fixed on the print bed. It can be printed without the print if your first layer adhesion is good (I had 6 out of 7 prints successful without a brim). And if your printer is good on overhangs, the result is probably even cleaner if you print without supports. For reference, I have added my project file (made for a Prusa CoreOne). 

Assembly

You need 4 screws M3x6 to mount the frame to the radio, they come with the radio and hold the metal handles on the front, which you need to take off. So unless you lost these screws, you are covered on these. Simply slip the frame on from the front. It is a tight fit, but slips on without too much force if you do a bit fo wiggling. If it does not work at all for you, simply enlarge it by a few percent in the slicer software. Put in the screws and the main work is done already.

To mount the stand to the frame you need M3 screws which are at least 16mm long, anything longer will also work. The screws will cut into the plastic, no thread cutting is needed. Just tighten them moderately, to avoid damaging the bore. You don't have to let them loose, the stand will fold even if the screws are tight (unless you totally overdo it).
